Overview
The Racing Manager is the definitive digital platform for managing and enjoying racehorse ownership. It brings together owners, trainers, and managers in a centralized digital hub that simplifies communication, administration, and real-time updates. My most significant contribution to the platform was the design of a powerful new dashboard for managers, developed for both desktop and mobile, to offer seamless access and control across devices.
The Challenge
The main challenge was to translate the highly specialized world of horse racing into a user friendly digital experience, despite my initial unfamiliarity with the industry. Managers needed to track multiple horses, coordinate teams, and manage large volumes of data, all while ensuring quick and easy access from both desktop and mobile. The goal was to build a scalable system that adapted to their workflows, whether they were in the office or on the move.
The Process
I began by conducting user research sessions with racehorse managers to understand their daily routines, priorities, and pain points. Based on this, I mapped out tailored user journeys for both desktop (for deep data management and oversight) and mobile (for fast check ins, quick edits, and on the go communication).
The desktop version emphasized clarity and control: grouped horse listings, detailed profile pages, internal and private notes, user management, and centralized access to race schedules and performance metrics. Meanwhile, the mobile version focused on speed and usability: lightweight navigation, collapsible sections, quick access to key horse details, and the ability to add or edit updates efficiently in the field.
I ensured consistency across platforms while adapting layouts and interactions to suit the context of use. Information hierarchy, legibility, and performance were core priorities, especially when dealing with dense data under time sensitive conditions.
The Result
The new cross-platform dashboard significantly improved the way managers engaged with the platform. It streamlined workflows, reduced the time spent on repetitive tasks, and allowed full flexibility regardless of device. Managers could now make real time updates from mobile or conduct in depth reviews on desktop, offering a level of functionality that truly supported the demands of the industry. The system was not only scalable and intuitive but also tailored to the fast-paced nature of professional horse management.
